A consulting-led interior design practice based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I work with people who have a house they like and rooms that are not working, and who would rather understand the decisions than hand them off entirely.
Most of what I do is editing. A room usually contains more than it needs and less of what it actually requires — often a light source that does real work, a rug at the correct size, and one piece at the right scale. Starting over is expensive and rarely necessary. Starting with what is already in the room is faster, cheaper, and produces a result that looks like it belongs to the person living there.

The Name
Victus.
Latin: sustenance, provision, a way of living.
The word describes what a house is supposed to do. Not display well. Sustain the life being lived inside it.
That is a practical standard, not a poetic one. It means the dining table has to survive homework and holidays. It means the entryway needs somewhere to actually put things down. It means the sofa you love is worth reupholstering rather than replacing. A room that photographs well and does not function has failed at the only test that matters.
Method
The order the decisions get made in.
Sequence matters more than budget. Most rooms go wrong because the decisions were made backwards.
First, the plan. Where things sit, how you move through the room, what has to be within reach of a seat. Furniture arrangement is a floor-plan problem before it is a shopping problem. Rugs, lighting, and everything else follow from it.
Second, the light. Nearly every room in an American house is under-lit and lit from one direction. The fix is layers — overhead, table height, floor height, and something on a wall — on separate switches, ideally on dimmers. This one change does more visible work than any single piece of furniture.
Third, what you already own. Anything with good bones stays. A solid wood case piece with a finish you dislike is a refinishing job, not a purchase. A well-made sofa in a fabric that has aged badly is upholstery work. Sentimental pieces get placed properly rather than hidden.
Fourth, the gaps. Only now does anything get bought, and in a specific order: the piece that anchors the room, then seating, then lighting, then the rug, then everything at eye level. Art and accessories come last, because they cannot be chosen honestly until the rest of the room exists.

What I do not do.
Clarity here saves everyone a call.
I do not gut-renovate as a starting point. Structural work, moving plumbing, and taking down walls are sometimes correct, and I will say so. They are not the default answer, and they are not where I begin.
I do not sell furniture. I recommend it. Where I link to a product, a commission may be earned on the purchase, which is disclosed clearly on every page where it applies. Nothing appears on this site because a commission is attached to it.
I do not take open-ended engagements. Every service has a defined scope, a defined price, a stated number of revisions, and a stated deliverable. Unlimited revisions serve no one — they delay the project and dilute the decisions.
I do not present concept imagery as finished work. Renderings, visualizations, and concept images on this site are labeled as such. If an image is not a photograph of completed work, it will say so on the image itself.

The work translates well over video, and most of it always did.
In person: Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, and the surrounding Triangle area. On-site work suits full-service projects, renovation finish selections, and anything where the room has to be measured and stood in.
Virtual, nationwide: Consultations, shopping boards, layout reviews, and paint and finish selection all work over video. You send photographs and measurements ahead of the call. We spend the time on decisions rather than on introductions. Clients regularly get more done in sixty focused virtual minutes than in a two-hour walkthrough.

Most of the questions I get are not project questions. They are single decisions — what size rug, how high to hang the light, which of these two chairs. Answering them one at a time by email helps one person.
So the answers live here instead. The room edits, the collections, and the guides are the same reasoning I would apply on a call, written down and attached to specific products you can buy. Some of those links earn a commission. That is disclosed on every page where it applies, and it does not influence what gets recommended.
